I find it somewhat amusing, and at some level disconcerting, that the President took to, of all things … Facebook … to announce that he is about to force a political conflict with a majority of the American people over the issue of immigration. Facebook shareholders, and amnesty supporter Mort Zuckerberg, must be pleased.
The President will smooth talk. He will cite, in general and vague terms, various laws and powers that he will claim that he has. He will continue to do what he does best, blame someone else, such as the Congress, for having to do these things. And, yes, he will lie. He will lie in the same way that Jonathan Gruber, and other ObamaCare supporters did, when selling ObamaCare to the American people.
As Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn recently said, on the immigration question the President is going to be “an autocratic leader that’s going to disregard what the Constitution says and make law anyway.” The retiring Senator is correct, although I think he is being somewhat magnanimous. As Reid Buckley penned in his 2005 pamphlet, An Essay on American Stupidity, (one of his many, and a very good read):
“…the city on the Hill has been irrevocably betrayed by human weakness, vice, sloth, avarice, and powerlust.”
These people – the Left and its legions – do not care what the American people think, much less do what is right. Their only concern about scoring political points. Political survival becomes paramount when the majority of the American people, at least today, disagree with you. U.S. security and rule of law, be damned.
The Left took the Democratic Party hostage years ago. And with immigration “reform” they only see 5,000,000+ potential new voters. It is the same approach as with ObamaCare. They need to create a permanent underclass, dependent on federal and state government largesse. In the process, the Democratic Party continues to snub its traditional base. Manufacturing jobs, do not matter. Coal extraction, does not matter. And the list goes on and on.
Let’s see if the Republicans are up to the very important task of taming this political demon and repairing the damage that the Left is about to inflict, yet again, on the Constitution.
And, as ably penned over at the Federalist blog, and many others, remember: No, Reagan Did Not Offer An Amnesty By Lawless Executive Order.
