A key national security committee of the US Congress published a bipartisan report yesterday that raises various public policy and legal questions related to Chinese economic activity in the US.
The target companies argue the report is an exercise in protectionism. The government says it is focused national security. Analyzing solely the responses from both sides, it is clear that we are seeing the start of a long political and legal process that, in the end, will impact many industries.
While it is too early to tell, the long-term impact of this process could surpass the political and legal effects of the 1999 Congressional China Cox Report.
