NY Daily News: Al-Qaeda-linked New Jersey Man worked in U.S. Nuclear Power Plants

Salem Nuclear Facility, New JerseyThe New York Daily News and other media outlets report this morning that an American of Somali heritage who was arrested in Yemen has been linked to Al-Qaeda and had been working at various nuclear power plants in the United States. According to the reports, the fellow seems to have passed federal background checks.

Securing U.S. nuclear power plants and nuclear technology has been a priority since the terrorist attacks of 09.11.01. It would be good to learn what this fellow, Sharif Mobley, had access to during the time he worked at the three New Jersey facilities.

Mobley could be a sympathizer or a home-grown terrorist in waiting. Either way he was real close for several years to sensitive facilities and technology.

According to statements by the spokesman of the New Jersey Governor, there were no security or technology breaches at any of the nuclear plants. Frankly, it is too soon to know the answer to that question.
